The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

Service Officers

Accredited American Legion service officers are specially trained to provide expert assistance, free of charge, to veterans and their families. As well as VA disability benefit applications we also provide information, referrals and resources on education, employment and business, death benefits and other important topics Service officers can provide answers on GI Bill benefits or offer directions to state, federal or school officials who can help.   Find a Service Officer

Boys-Girls State

In these two programs, participants spend a week learning first hand about how our political parties work to protect the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.

State Police Youth Week

Open to 16 and 17 year old high school students throughout CT. Youth week is modeled after State Police recruit training and provides students a unique opportunity to gain insight into the training, duties and expectations of Connecticut State Troopers.

Wreaths Across America

The goal of Post 133 Wreaths across America program is to place a Christmas wreath on the graves of all veterans buried in South Windsor; and to educate our citizens to remember, honor, and teach that our freedoms are not free. Oratorical Contest

The Oratorical Contest presents participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation's laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

Legion Baseball

American Legion Baseball enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues. Today, the program registers more than 5,400 teams in all 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Rocky Hill Bingos

Volunteers will participate in two semi-annual bingo games held at the Rocky Hill Veterans’ Home on the first Monday in May & the first Monday in December.

Visit with Veterans

To let them know they are not forgotten volunteers assist the director in organizing events (bingos, car shows, flag and Veteran Wall ceremonies, etc.) at local nursing homes to recognize their resident veterans. We will also send annual ’thank you’ cards on Veterans day to all town nursing home Veterans.

Boy - Girl Scouts

Our post attends ceremonies for Eagle and Gold Award Scout award ceremomies. We present certificates to these outstanding young American boys & girls. Contact Frank Simao at 860-644-6043 if you have an event at which you would like patriotic flags displayed.

Color Guard

Our post has a color guard that displays our patriotic flags at various community events, like Memorial Day, Veterans Day, several Wreaths Across America ceremonies, and the Ralph Giansanti tournament. Coins/Pins

When our post members see a currently serving service member in uniform, we present them with an American Legion Thank You coin to thank them for their service. We also offer them free membership in our post for a year.

Blue Star Banner

The Blue Star Service flag is an official banner authorized by the Department of Defense for display by families who have members serving in the Armed Forces during any period of war or hostilities the United States may be engaged in for the duration of such hostilities.Our post presents a blue star banner to  any family that has a member serving in the military.

Food Pantry

Our post members bring non-perishable food items to our monthly meetings, which we then donate to the South Windsor food pantry.
